The Weekly Written Review, In Practice.

Three operators in three markets, none of whom know each other, all ended up running essentially the same Monday-morning ritual. Five bullets per leader, submitted in writing before the standup, read by everyone in silence for the first ten minutes of the meeting.

The template is boring on purpose. Shipped. Slipped. Blocked. Decided. Watching. That is the whole thing. It fits in a Notion page, takes a leader twenty minutes to write, and replaces roughly three meetings a week once it is established.

Why it works

Writing forces sequencing. A leader who cannot fit the week into five bullets does not yet understand the week. The act of compression is the work — not the document.

"If the leader can't compress the week into five bullets, the leader doesn't yet understand the week. The document is just the receipt."

The failure mode is treating it as a status report for the CEO. The version that works is treated as a peer artifact — written for the other functional leaders, not upward. The CEO reads it, but they are not the audience.

Try it for six weeks. The teams that stick with it past week three almost never go back. The teams that drop it usually did so because the CEO turned it into a performance review and everyone quietly stopped being honest.
